1. Introduction to the week
In Week 3 of the Knowledge and Methods aspect of the module you will become familiar with key issues relating to understanding the role and impact of communication in caring for individuals living with dementia. The week will commence with your reflection on your own understanding of communication in the caring process and the supportive guidance of individuals living with dementia. Consequently, the rights of individuals living with dementia will be discussed and and principles of communication along with key aspects of organising care will be analysed
Aims/ Objectives of Week
- To understand key issues relating to the impact of dementia on communication
- To understand the main principles of communication with and guidance of a person with dementia
- To identify the rights of people with dementia and the components of a good care environment
- To critically reflect on own communication skills
Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this week you will be able to:- Demonstrate an insight and understanding of the impact of dementia on communication and interaction
- Demonstrate an insight of the rights of people living with dementia and an understanding of the components of a caring environment
- Develop the potential to reflectively describe and analyse own abilities with regard communication and guidance
