1. Introduction to the week

In Week 1 of the Knowledge and Methods aspect of the module you will become familiar with key issues relating to dementia and care needs of individuals living with dementia. The week will commence with your reflection on your own understanding of dementia and in the reflective process you will explore your knowledge relating to dementia, identify potential areas that you require further elaboration in relation to dementia and share experiences with caring for people with dementia. Key issues on dementia will be presented
Aims/ Objectives of Week
- To critically reflect on personal understanding of dementia and various types dementia such as Alzheimer
- To understand key issues relating to dementia and Alzheimer e.g. symptoms, stages, causes and consequences of dementia/ Alzheimer
- To collaboratively discuss and evaluate the potential care needs of individuals living with dementia
- To consider the role of healthcare professionals in the care of individuals living with dementia and compare preconceptions of care between countries
Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this week you will be able to:- Develop the potential to reflectively describe and analyse the views on dementia and care needs of individuals living with dementia
- Demonstrate an insight and understanding of the development and progression of dementia and process of implementing change by the use of valid and valuable evidence
- Provide the means for considering care requirements for people living with dementia and compare personal views of caring between countries
